Activities
Welcome to the Maplewood Nursing Home Community. An enthusiastic recreation staff encourages all residents to spice up their lives by pursuing vibrant, well-planned group events. Residents can enjoy premium concerts, lend another passionate viewpoint to weekly current events sessions, or enlist in the Holiday Bazaar Planning Committee. Exploring Rochester’s most renowned cultural sites and hottest shopping centers is another option. Outings at the Maplewood are not seasonal. They’re offered all year long. After all, the Rochester area does not shut down for the wintertime.
Maplewood’s lifestyle philosophy doesn’t believe in shepherding residents to events merely to “keep them busy”. Each resident’s individual preferences and lifestyle choices are highly respected. Newer residents are far more frequently showing up with PC’s or laptops. Tapping into Maplewood’s powerful WiFi system is easy. Residents preferring a late, in-room lunch or needing a few orders of chicken wings for game day guests can dial up the Maplewood’s in-house Room Service.
A very important recreational guiding principle demands that staff respond to residents’ ideas and aspirations. Staff never underestimates the residents' thoughts and life experiences. Many years ago, one resident suggested a yearly Maplewood Holiday Bazaar. Its main focus was raising money for charity. Four years later, that event has earned $5000 for various organizations. Residents largely run this event. It seems different here. Residents obviously live within the physical structure of Maplewood, but feel part of the larger community. They continue to give back. Recently, they built birdhouses and donated them to the White Haven Bluebird Sanctuary. One can only wonder what the next great idea will be!
Recreationally, Maplewood Nursing Home strives to serve the entire family, or support group, not just the resident. That nucleus is usually the most important piece of a resident’s life. This must continue. Maplewood consciously creates a comfortable, even fun, atmosphere for family members and friends. Whether it’s sitting together enjoying Grilled Scallops at the innovatively original Maple Bay Café or sharing streaming video of a grandson’s soccer game, it can all happen here. Maplewood bristles at the thought of loved ones dropping in for a very brief visit then racing to the nearest exit to flee a dreary, lifeless building. That very word - life - encompasses our outlook. It definitely continues to happen here.
